Abstract
Technical environments may provide new possibilities for siting of wind turbines, especially for the large 1,5 - 2,5 MW WTGs which are generally considered too large in open land in Denmark, but also for the small types of turbines when appropriate. The potential is roughly estimated to approximately 400 WTGs in Technical environments in Denmark.
The visual interaction with the technical installation is considered as an advantage in relation to the public approval, but it has become evidently that at a long distance view only few technical installations can support the MW class turbines visually. Also highly individual requirements characterize wind energy projects in a technical environment. Often it is not obvious that a location is suitable for wind turbines with the result that these possibilities have largely been ignored or misinterpreted.
In this report general characteristics for projects of this type are presented along with 20 Cases of projects with a relation to large power plants, industry, harbors or major infrastructure. Some projects are established, some are in progress and some are just ideas.
A considerable amount of experience has been gathered in the Process of developing this report, which publishes this knowledge to Initiators of projects and decision makers. A check list is developed to assist on reaching and early STOP-GO for WTG projects in technical environments.
