- Virtual reality modeling of wind farms including the countryside. Virtual reality (VR) modeling of wind farms has moved into a new era with the release of the WindPRO / 3d-animator tool. A basic virtual reality model of a farm is now created within a few minutes and a more detailed model is easily created within a few days. A case study showing the potential and limitations of the WindPRO / 3d-animator module was presented during the European Wind Energy Conference in Madrid (June 2003). EMD employee Morten Lybech Thøgersen gave a speech of the VR possibilities during the session 'Wind Power in the Society', chaired by Mr. Manuel de Dalás, APPA - Spain and Mr. Steve Sawyer, Greenpeace International. - Adding Free Satellite Images as Background Maps In WindPRO 2.3. Several free sources of relative high-resolution satellite images now exist on the Internet. These images are available in a resolution down to approximately 15-30 meters per pixel, thus opening for the possibility to identify details as large roads and houses. In WindPRO these photos may be used as background maps and as nice textures for virtual reality presentations (3d animator). Getting a geo-referenced map from the NASA ESAD web site is very easy, lasting no more than a few minutes (after you have installed the appropriate programs and downloaded the map).
