New eGRID Module for Design and Calculation of Electrical Grids for Wind Farm Projects

The new eGRID module is a very flexible and efficient grid calculation program, which can even be used by WindPRO users without any special electrical background. With just a few mouse clicks, it is possible to insert objects in a WindPRO project describing cables, transformers and connections points and then make different kind of electrical calculations for the wind farm project.

When using the eGRID module, it is possible to calculate and optimize the grid connection for wind farm projects. The module calculates and delivers the following documentation: Annual losses in cables and transformers taking wind climates into account, check of the cable and transformer design (load in percentage of capacity), steady state voltage variations based on the two free-definable load situations or auto defined based on selected Norm, short circuit power and current, voltage fluctuations (long-term flicker), voltage variations caused by switching effects, verification of the calculated values with determined demands given by e.g. the utility, list of components used for cost calculations, including both cable length as well as excavation length.

You can find detailed information about the new eGRID module by clicking here.

The price for the eGRID module is Euro 1,500 for a 1-user license, but for  orders received before 31st of May, we are offering the eGRID module, 1-user license and one language at an introduction price of Euro 1,250.

If you are interested in testing this new module before ordering it, please contact emd@emd.dk to receive a temporary license.

WANTED: Test users for the eGRID Module

We are looking for about 10 test users who will test and comment our new eGRID module based on calculations on their own actual wind farm projects. The test period will be 2-3 months prior to the official release date of version 2.5. The test period will start around February 15th. You can find more information about the eGRID module above.
If you are interested in becoming a test user, please contact emd@emd.dk immediately.

Hotfix 3 for WindPRO 2.4 available

It is now possible to download a new Hotfix 3 for WindPRO 2.4 on www.emd.dk. Please download the hotfix by clicking on "Demo and Updates" in the top bar menu on our website. A detailed description of corrections and enhancements within this hotfix is also available on the website.

Windows 2000 Updates and WAsP 5

If you are using Windows 2000 and install one of the latter Windows 2000 updates, the side effect is that WAsP 5 (DOS version) will no longer be working, as these updates do not support the DOS extender used in WAsP 5. When you start a calculation in WindPRO using WAsP, you will get an error message. The Windows 2000 updates causing problems are as follows

KB 835732
KB 840987
KB 885835

If you wish to continue to use WAsP 5, you need to avoid installing one of the above-mentioned Windows 2000 updates. At the same time it should be mentioned that the three Windows 2000 updates are important as they remove some security errors in the earlier versions of Windows 2000.
When releasing version 2.5 this problem will be solved, as we will include a new DOS emulator tool, whereby it will be possible still to use WAsP 5, even if you download the latest Windows 2000 updates or use XP.

2005 has 53 Weeks according to EMD

If you have received the EMD 2005 calendar you may have noticed that it contains 53 weeks. Although we are very devoted to our work and often wish we had more time, we must admit that 2005 only contains 52 weeks.
If you look at the calendar, you will notice that for some unknown reason our marketing agency has inserted two week numbers within week 9. This means that for the rest of the year you will have to delete -1 to the week numbers mentioned on the calendar.
We are printing a limited amount of corrected calendars, and if you wish to receive one of these, please send an e-mail to emd@emd.dk.

New French-speaking Wind Consultant at EMD in Denmark

We are pleased to inform you that Ms. Karina Bredelle has joined our team of wind consultants in Aalborg, Denmark. Ms. Bredelle is providing both hot-line support to WindPRO users and will also be working in our consultancy service department. Ms. Bredelle is raised and educated in France and holds a degree as Prof. M. in Environmental Eng. Prior to her employment at EMD, she has been working for a French engineering company within wind energy and is an experienced user of WindPRO. Ms. Bredelle speaks French, English and Danish and can be reached at kb@emd.dk.

New Sales Assistant at EMD in Denmark

As Louise Larsen will be leaving for a one-year maternity leave very soon, we are pleased to inform you that we have employed Heidi Iversen as her substitute during this period. Heidi holds a Bachelor degree in English and German language. All e-mails send to Louise will automatically be forwarded to Heidi. Furthermore, she can also be contacted at hi@emd.dk.

Advanced Changing of Properties for Multiple Objects

Certainly you know the tool "Multi Edit", which is used to change properties of multiple objects in the object list simultaneously. This proves very useful e.g. when you want to change the WTG type or hub height of a large wind farm or when you want to define an identical distance circle for all turbines.

But how can you proceed if the property you want to change is not identical for all objects, but each object are to be given an individual property, e.g. when you want to add names to your WTGs ("WTG 1", "WTG 2", "WTG 3A", "WTG 3B", etc)?

  1. Use the Windows Clipboard to copy the objects to Excel (select objects in the object list, right-click, select "Copy object(s)" from menu and then insert from Clipboard into Excel)

  2. Find the correct column in the Excel table and change the object properties- (e.g. Object description, User label, Hub height)

  3. Select the table in Excel and copy it to the Clipboard, then insert it into the WindPRO object list. Doing this, the following has to be taken into account:

    - Usually, when copying Objects from Excel to WindPRO, you must only include the columns to the right of column "Object ID" (including) into the selection; the first three columns are not to be copied. But in this special case, you also have to include the column "System Label" into the selection, because this column tells WindPRO in the next step, which of your WindPRO-Objects is to be updated with the new data.

    - When pasting the contents of the Windows Clipboard into the WindPRO object list, do NOT select "Paste object(s)" in the context menu (right mouse button-menu).

    - Instead, select "Replace object data". Doing this, no new objects will be created, but the existing ones will be updated with the changed data from the Excel table.
