Import of logger files

In WindPRO it is possible to import meteorological logger files by means of a meteo-object. A meteo-object is a versatile import and analysing tool which adapts itself to the logger files used.

The format must be a text file separated into columns, with columns for time stamp, wind direction and wind speed.

From the meteo-object a selected logger file can be opened to inspect the set-up of the file. In this case the Cronalaght data consist of several similar logger files. All the files have been chosen for the import and one of these have been chosen for inspection in figure 4.

Figure 4: Import of logger files in WindPRO.

No header has been assigned to the columns but from the logger set-up it is known that the columns contain: Year, Month, Day, Hour, Minute, 0, Wind speed at 10 m, 0, Direction, 0, Wind speed at 30 m.

The logger import is configured to accept this format. First step is to indicate separators and starting row of the data. Next indication is made of which columns hold the information needed for date, time, wind speed, wind direction and turbulence. In this case date and time are separated in a logger file in several columns which is not a problem for the importer. The columns needed are just indicated. Also in this case there is no turbulence information but that is not critical for the handling of data.

When the import profile has been set up, a statistic on the file can be made. This shows how many valid data the logger file holds with these settings. A green code shows that these data are well imported. In the beginning and at the end a yellow colour indicates that these days are not complete.

The settings can now be stored so a default profile will exist for this specific type of logger.

In the next tab sheet “Time series” all the logger files are now imported using the button “(Re)load all”.
